What is Ritchey's history?
| John P. Ritchey Sr., purchased the land and established a Christmas tree farm in the 1940's. The farm encompasses 62 acres, 40 of which are planted in Christmas trees. The first harvest of trees came in the 1950's. Trees were sold from his home in Eldorado or sold wholesale and shipped. | |
| He built the stone house that houses the Christmas Gift Shop. As demand for live Christmas trees increased, he realized the need to open the farm for a choose and cut operation. |  |
In 1965 John P. Ritchey Jr., purchased the stone house and finished the interior making it suitable to raise a family. The family has been involved with sales here even since. In 1982, John Jr. and daughters inherited the farm and established sales and operating procedures many of which still continue today. The most notable improvements are extensive road building to allow easier access to and from fields by workers and customers alike.
John Jr., laid out parking lots, began transporting customers to and from fields, began recycling out own trees returned to us thus helping the environment, and began improving field management
In 1992, Debbie (Ritchey) Johnson and Susan (Ritchey) Bloom inherited the farm and operate it to the present day. The opening of the Christmas Gift Shop is the realization of a dream to further expand the business.
